Kurz gesagt

Privacy policy (English)

Last updated: 04.11.2026. This policy covers the website searoom.farazfarid.com and the Mac app Searoom. The German version above is binding.

Controller

In short

  • The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising services and loads no fonts or scripts from other servers.
  • The app measures sizes and reads the names of files and folders on your Mac, never file contents. File names, contents and usage data never leave your Mac.
  • The app connects only to: Homebrew's cask list, the App Store lookup, the update feeds of your installed apps, Dodo Payments (license) and this website (Searoom's own updates).

Website: hosting and server logs

The website runs on a server of Contabo GmbH (Germany) and is delivered through Cloudflare, Inc., which protects the connection, caches content and manages the domain's DNS records. When you visit, these services process technically necessary data such as IP address, time, requested address and browser identifier to deliver the page and fend off attacks (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Data processing agreements are in place with both providers. Cloudflare may transfer data to the USA, safeguarded by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Server logs are deleted after a short time.

The Searoom app on your Mac

Searoom measures how much space folders and files take and reads their names, sizes and last-used dates. It does not open file contents. With Full Disk Access it can also measure protected folders like Mail, Messages and the Trash. Scan results, the Cleaned Up journal, daily sizes for the weekly report and settings stay on your Mac. Searoom does not delete files; it moves them to the Trash. The exceptions, which the app names and asks you to confirm first, are local Time Machine snapshots and unavailable simulators, which macOS or Xcode removes. There is no advertising, tracking or analytics. “Copy Diagnostics” (Help menu) copies versions, states and counts to the clipboard, without paths, file or app names and without the license key; you decide whether to send it to me.

Connections the app makes

The app makes only these connections. Like any request on the internet, each server sees your IP address and the time. File names, file contents and usage data are never sent.

  • Homebrew (formulae.brew.sh): once a day the app downloads Homebrew's public cask list to compare versions. No data about your Mac is sent. Trial and Pro only.
  • App Store (itunes.apple.com, Apple): for Mac App Store apps the app asks Apple's public lookup for the current version, sending that app's identifier (bundle ID) and your country code. Trial and Pro only.
  • Your apps' update feeds: many apps name their own update address (a Sparkle feed) inside the app. Searoom reads that address at the app's developer, as the app itself does. When you install an update, Searoom downloads it from the address the developer gives in that feed. Trial and Pro only.
  • Dodo Payments (license): when you activate a license key, the app sends the key and your Mac's name; after that it sends the key about once a week to check it, and it releases the seat when you remove it.
  • This website (Searoom's own updates): about once a day the app loads searoom.farazfarid.com/appcast.xml (Sparkle), also in the free version. The server also sees the app identifier with its version number.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (the features you use and the license) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (providing updates). Processing at Apple, the Homebrew project and your apps' developers is governed by their own privacy policies.

Purchase

Dodo Payments handles purchase and payment as merchant of record; its privacy policy is linked at checkout. Dodo Payments gives me your name, email address, order data and license key so I can provide the license, answer questions and handle withdrawals (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

License check in the app

When you activate a license key, the app sends the key and your Mac's name to the Dodo Payments license API. After that it checks about once a week whether the key is still valid. Files, file names and details about your apps are never sent (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Transfers to the USA are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

Email and support

If you write to me, I process your details to answer (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete them once they're no longer needed and no retention duty applies. Emails to farazfarid.com addresses are received, stored and sent for me by Resend (Resend, Inc., San Francisco, USA) under a data processing agreement; possible access from the US is covered by the EU Commission's standard contractual clauses.

Withdrawal form

If you withdraw with “Cancel contract”, I process your name, email address, order number, purchase date, optional message and the time of receipt to confirm receipt, match the contract and arrange the refund (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR with § 356a BGB). My server at Contabo GmbH in Germany receives the form; Resend, Inc. (USA) sends the confirmation email as processor. I keep the withdrawal for documentation until the statutory limitation period ends (usually 3 years from the end of the year).

Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR), and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia.
